5 Reasons to Shop Consignment

Operating a consignment store, I regularly encounter new customers not really understanding the (maybe not-so-obvious at first glance) differences between consignment and thrift. And while I can't speak for every establishment, as a long time frequenter of both business models, here's what I can say -

1. By shopping consignment, you're supporting your neighbors' side hustle

Moms raising funds for new school clothes or the grocery bill, seniors supplementing their social security and offsetting the cost of pricey medications, independent artists without a brick & mortar location of their own. These are just a few of the many examples of people who partner with consignment shops. Personally, I feel good as a consumer knowing WHO exactly my contributions are supporting. Which leads into my next point -

2. Small business > large scale corporate "non-profits"

Now I won't name any names, but I think y'all know what I'm getting at. In fact, this post is a direct response to an (in my opinion, misleading) blog post I came across recently. This is not to say that there aren't plenty of wonderful and reputable organizations out there doing good in the world. There are! #SalvationArmy #Soroptimist #HabitatforHumanity - Point is, not all non-profits are created equally, and heck - neither are small businesses for that matter BUT...I'd rather spend my money w the little guys every. single. time.

3. We cherry pick the good stuff for you!

You're not gonna have to sift through piles of junk to find the real treasures in a consignment shop. They've been hand picked and thoughtfully curated by someone who shares the passion for keeping quality alive! So yes, while its true you may spend a few dollars more, you're really getting more bang for your buck. You're not buying a $20 Louis & crossing you're fingers is the real deal. In a consignment setting, you're paying for authenticity, rarity, and quality.

4. Better atmosphere

Think more boutique and less bargain bin, while still getting an incredible deal! In most consignment shops, its a given that the items you encounter are going to be CLEAN, steamed & put together in an eye-catching and inspired way. You can try things on and a shop assistant will readily help you find the perfect outfit for a girl's night out. Plus, it smells better. ;)

5. Bottom Line: We care more!

Sorry, not sorry! A consignment shop is typically operated by one to five (over-worked, yet) passionate people. So you best believe our blood, sweat & tears go into making it happen. We don't have corporate backing and infinitely deep pockets. We are accountants, carpenters, data processors, marketing managers, website designers, ALL IN ONE!! If we don't succeed, we don't have a job. So while we may make it look easy ;) we are working overtime behind the scenes to provide the best experience imaginable.
